Frequently asked questions

Why do I need delivery car insurance to deliver takeaways and pizza?

Unlike standard social, domestic, and pleasure policies, Street Cover’s car insurance provides cover for the unique risks associated with delivering takeaways and pizza: such as increased mileage, frequent stops, and carrying goods. It’s essential for protecting you and your vehicle.

To be legally covered to deliver takeaways and pizza using a car, your insurance policy must have a permitted use of ‘hire and reward for the delivery of goods’ (or similar) stated on the Certificate of Motor Insurance.

Do I need Hire and Reward Insurance to deliver takeaway food or pizza using my car?

Yes, you are legally required to have the appropriate insurance cover to deliver takeaways or pizza using a car. A motor insurance policy will stipulate the permitted uses of the vehicle on the Certificate of Motor Insurance. To deliver takeaway food or pizza you will need a use of ‘hire and reward for the delivery of goods’ or similar wording.

Does Street Cover's insurance cover me to work with any business that does takeaway or pizza delivery?

Street Cover’s car insurance provides legal cover to deliver takeaways, pizza, fast food, parcels and most other products, independent of the business that is being paid by a customer to make the delivery. Our cover is not restricted to one partner business so you can deliver for more than one business.

The only exception may be if a delivery business stipulates that drivers must use a specific insurer for their business – we are not aware of this though.

Full details of cover is in the Policy Booklet, available on the documents page.

Can I use Street Cover’s insurance to deliver takeaways and pizza if I am self employed contractor?

Yes. Street Cover’s delivery insurance covers you to deliver takeaway or pizza regardless of whether you are a self-employed contractor or employed directly by the delivery company. You will need to be the policyholder or a named driver on the policy.
