Frequently asked questions
Who needs food delivery insurance?
If you use your car to deliver for restaurants, takeaways, or food delivery platforms (like Just Eat, Deliveroo, Uber Eats, etc.), you will need fast food delivery insurance. Your standard car insurance won’t cover you while you’re making these paid deliveries. Our takeaway delivery insurance is specifically designed for delivery drivers in the fast food sector.
What is car insurance for food delivery?
Car insurance for food delivery is a specialised policy, also known as ‘hire and reward’ insurance; this protects you when you’re delivering food using your own car. It covers the risks associated with frequent short trips, urban driving, and potentially working unsociable hours, which are common if you are delivering food for hire and reward. This ensures you’re properly insured when delivering in exchange for payment.
What cover does Street Cover's food delivery insurance include?
Our food delivery insurance policies are designed to protect you on the job.
Our insurance covers you for damage to any third party vehicle and property (up to £20m); loss or damage to your car after an accident (note: for comprehensive cover policies only); loss or damage to your car from fire or theft; a courtesy car (for up to 7 days); and windscreen cover (£25 excess to repair, £115 excess to replace).
Please look at the policy booklets on the documents page for a complete list of features (or look at the Insurance Product Information Documents (IPIDs) full a summary of features by cover level).
How much does food delivery insurance cost?
The cost of fast food delivery insurance can vary based on factors like your age, driving record, vehicle type, location, and the hours you work.
The best way to find out the cost for you is to get a food delivery insurance quote. Remember, driving without the correct insurance can lead to much greater costs and legal issues in the long run.
Can I use my own car to deliver food with food delivery insurance?
Yes, our food delivery insurance is designed to provide cover when using your own car to deliver food. Our insurance is ‘hire and reward’ cover which allows you to make deliveries in exchange for payment.
Do I need fast food delivery insurance if I only work part-time?
Yes, even if you only deliver food part-time, you still need fast food delivery insurance for the hours you are working. Your standard car insurance is unlikely to cover any incidents that occur while you are engaged in delivery activities for payment, regardless of how many hours you work.
